KestrelSpec Supported Spectrographs

Both the Lite and Full versions of KestrelSpec can control any manufacturer's fixed-grating spectrograph that is used with one of our supported CCD cameras. The calibration method for a fixed-grating spectrograph is either a polynomial least squares or spline interpolation fit. For stepper motor control, the following three scanning spectrographs are supported by both versions of KestrelSpec via RS232 serial communications.

  • Spectral Products (formerly CVI Laser): Stepper motor control for Digikrom models 240, 242, 480 and CM110/112. Selection of grating, scan speed, filter wheel, and entrance and middle slit widths. Capability to acquire spectra while scanning through a series of wavelengths in either nm or Raman cm-1 units. An example of the controls for Spectral Products:

    The spectrograph is calibrated with "1-point" KestrelCal when the AutoCal button is selected.
     
  • Bruker Optics (formerly Chromex): Stepper motor control for SureSpectrum models 250is, 250is/sm, 500is and 500is/sm. Selection of grating, scan speed and filter. Switch between spectrometer and monochromator modes. Adjust the widths of the entrance and exit slits. Capability to acquire spectra while scanning through a series of wavelengths in either nm or Raman cm-1 units. An example of the controls for the SureSpectrum:

  • Acton Research Corporation: Stepper motor control for SpectraPro models 150, 275, 300i (including the 306 and 308), 500, 500i, and 750. Selection of grating and scan speed. Repositioning of input and output diverter mirrors. Capability to acquire spectra while scanning through a series of wavelengths in either nm or Raman cm-1 units. In addition to any fixed-grating spectrograph and these three scanning spectrographs, KestrelSpec supports echelle-type spectrographs from two manufacturers.

  • Optomechanics Research: OMR builds an echelle-type spectrograph called the SE 200 with a 200mm focal length, supported by the Full version of KestrelSpec.
     
    The SE 200 spectrograph is calibrated using the unique "2-point" KestrelCal created exclusively by Catalina Scientific for calibrating an echelle-type spectrograph.
     
    The advantage of an echelle-type spectrograph is its ability to cover a wide range of wavelengths with high resolution in just one acquired image.
     

  • Catalina Scientific: We build the EMU-120/65 echelle spectrograph that has the highest throughput of any broadband echelle instrument. The EMU-120/65 is designed for F/3 or faster input optics with such high etendue that it is versatile enough for both LIBS (Laser Induced Breakdown Spectroscopy) and Raman applications.
     
    The EMU-120/65 echelle is calibrated using our unique "3-point" KestrelCal created exclusively by Catalina Scientific for this spectrograph.
